Episode 65: Project Hail Mary / The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Two of this year’s biggest hits so far are galaxy-spanning adaptations of popular works. The first is, PROJECT HAIL MARY, based on the popular novel by the author of THE MARTIAN, Andy Weir. The Brothers give their thoughts on the film, discussing Ryan Gosling’s performance, its flashback structure, and where it fits in the genre of “science-forward” space exploration stories. The second is THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, the hit sequel to the 2023 animated film, based on some of the most popular video games of all time. The Brothers debate its merits as a movie and as an adaptation of the games, noting its pleasures and frustrations.
