Aren is drawn to form and function. As a filmmaker, he loves any movie that makes the camera do magical things, whether that's depicting science fiction spectacle or capturing the beauty of a human face. He is a stickler for conflict, but couldn't care less about plot holes, weak dialogue, or notions of plausibility. He hates egotism and cheap irony, but loves bold visions. A simple children's film will make him crumble while a saccharine indie film will make him sick. He's a prairie boy, born and raised, but he lives in that spider's web of condos and hipsters known as Toronto. He writes about movies because it's cheaper than making them all the time.
